Ashton on Mersey CC 1st XI 150 all out

Cheshire County Cricket League Division 2 Ashton on Mersey CC 1st XI 150 all out Lost to Cheadle Hulme CC 1st XI 280 -3 Ashton’s hopes of survival in the Division were snuffed out on the final day of the season thanks to a home loss to the impressive Cheadle Hulme. Opting to bowl first on a day which was to be rain interrupted, Ashton tasted early success as Tai Khan removed openers Jordon Potts. But that was the end of Ashton’s luck as Ollie Willett and Adam Wilde came together to post a 190 run partnership for the 2nd wicket.  Things could have been different as Wilde survived a dismissal thanks to a no ball, but the home bowling was generally unable to threaten or contain the class batting of the visitors. Cheadle Hulme stormed to a massive total of 280-3 off their reduced 40 overs with Willett unbeaten on 150. In reply more rain disruption reduced Ashton’s target to 257 off 35 overs but they were never really in the hunt as wickets fell at regular intervals. Ashton finally capitulated to 150 all out with Potts taking 4 tail end wickets for just 7 runs.  With Haslington beating an understrength Ashley side, Ashton dropped into the relegation places, and will play alongside fellow relegated side Stockport next year in Division 3. Ashton’s 2nd XI brought some lightness to a dark day with a crushing victory over Stockport 2s. Stockport 70 all out, Ashton 72-4. Pictured  Dave Patterson leads an appeal Fraser Hay bowls

With 3 games left in the season, AOM Darts team remain right in the promotion hun

With 3 games left in the season, AOM Darts team remain right in the promotion hunt following a comfortable 6-1 home victory last night which plunged our opponents, the bottom placed Carters Arms, deeper into their own relegation dog-fight. The “man in form” Chris Chapman threw the best average of the night (65 average) and also the least darts (18 dart leg), whilst James Compton hit the best checkout (80 finish). AOM remain in the 2nd promotion place and are now 12 points clear of 3rd place Broadheath Central, albeit Broadheath have a game in hand. Next week Broadheath go up against top of the table Fusion Aces whilst AOM travel to 5th placed Trafford Social Club. It’s a tough run-in for Ashton with a home match against 4th placed Melville to follow and then a final day of the season trip to Fusion Aces who have only lost 1 match all season. In related news – it was the inaugural appearance of Robbo’s cottage pie as the post-match sustenance; very much enjoyed by all! Everyone is always welcome to come down and support the team.

Ashton on Mersey CC 1st XI 210-6

Cheshire County Cricket League Division 2 Ashton on Mersey CC 1st XI 210-6 Beat Oulton Park CC 1st XI 209 all out Ashton on Mersey gave themselves a chance to pull off a great escape from relegation, as they stormed to a win on the road at Oulton Park. Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Ashton blew away the top of the home team batting with Fraser Hay reducing Oulton Park to 16-3. Andrew Dufty brought some order to proceedings with a well crafted 83, but the middle order batting never got on top of the Ashton attack. Hay returned to demolish the tail, to finish with well deserved figures of 5-29, as Oulton Park were all out for a below par 209. In reply Hay showed that he was adept with the bat as with the ball, combining with Hugh Gibbons to blitz an opening partnership of 35 in less than 4 overs. When both fell, Haris Yassin took charge. His mature 59 was the rock on which the Ashton innings was built. With contributions from Tom Jenkinson, Charlie Eaton and Tom Scott, it was left to Mark Weighill and skipper James Marshall to take Ashton over the line with 5 overs to spare. This was another fine performance from the Ashton team, and with results elsewhere going their way, they climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time in many months. With one week to go, Ashton’s fate is in their own hands, with a win needed to secure their survival. Ashton’s 2nd XI made it a double winning weekend as they got the best of Cheadle Hulme at The Beets. Cheadle Hulme 160 all out Ashton 163-8. Pictured  Fraser Hay Bowls Haris Yassin Bats
