Oulton Park CC 1st XI 209 all out

Ashton on Mersey gave themselves a chance to pull off a great escape from relegation, as they stormed to a win on the road at Oulton Park.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Ashton blew away the top of the home team batting with Fraser Hay reducing Oulton Park to 16-3.

Andrew Dufty brought some order to proceedings with a well crafted 83, but the middle order batting never got on top of the Ashton attack.

Hay returned to demolish the tail, to finish with well deserved figures of 5-29, as Oulton Park were all out for a below par 209.

In reply Hay showed that he was adept with the bat as with the ball, combining with Hugh Gibbons to blitz an opening partnership of 35 in less than 4 overs.

When both fell, Haris Yassin took charge. His mature 59 was the rock on which the Ashton innings was built. With contributions from Tom Jenkinson, Charlie Eaton and Tom Scott, it was left to Mark Weighill and skipper James Marshall to take Ashton over the line with 5 overs to spare.

This was another fine performance from the Ashton team, and with results elsewhere going their way, they climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time in many months.

With one week to go, Ashton’s fate is in their own hands, with a win needed to secure their survival.

Ashton’s 2nd XI made it a double winning weekend as they got the best of Cheadle Hulme at The Beets. Cheadle Hulme 160 all out Ashton 163-8.
