Cheshire County Cricket League Division 2
Ashton on Mersey CC 1st XI 98 all out
Lost to
Stockport CC 1st XI 100-3
Ashton on Mersey crashed to another defeat as their difficult season continued with a visit to Stockport CC.
Losing the toss and being asked to bat first, on a track which offered help to the bowlers, Ashton lost early wickets once again.
Haris Yassin and Fraser Hay brought some stability to the batting effort with a 60-run partnership and with the score at 71-2 Ashton would have been looking to build a competitive total.
But in a sad repeat of many games this season the rest of the batting fell well short of what was required, with the last 8 wickets falling for just 27 runs.
The total of 98 all out in just 30 overs was never going to be a challenge for the home side, and Stockport knocked off the runs for the loss of 3 wickets.
This defeat, against a side also struggling at the wrong end of the table, was a new low in a season of lows, and the club is now staring relegation squarely in the face.
The Ashton 2nd XI brought some cheer with a fine win at The Beets over Port Sunlight. Ashton 223 all out (Sam Thoburn 82, Will Kane 51) Port Sunlight 108 all out)
