Cheadle Hulme CC 1st XI 280 -3

Ashton’s hopes of survival in the Division were snuffed out on the final day of the season thanks to a home loss to the impressive Cheadle Hulme.

Opting to bowl first on a day which was to be rain interrupted, Ashton tasted early success as Tai Khan removed openers Jordon Potts.

But that was the end of Ashton’s luck as Ollie Willett and Adam Wilde came together to post a 190 run partnership for the 2nd wicket.

Things could have been different as Wilde survived a dismissal thanks to a no ball, but the home bowling was generally unable to threaten or contain the class batting of the visitors.

Cheadle Hulme stormed to a massive total of 280-3 off their reduced 40 overs with Willett unbeaten on 150.

In reply more rain disruption reduced Ashton’s target to 257 off 35 overs but they were never really in the hunt as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Ashton finally capitulated to 150 all out with Potts taking 4 tail end wickets for just 7 runs.

With Haslington beating an understrength Ashley side, Ashton dropped into the relegation places, and will play alongside fellow relegated side Stockport next year in Division 3.

Ashton’s 2nd XI brought some lightness to a dark day with a crushing victory over Stockport 2s. Stockport 70 all out, Ashton 72-4.
